Jared Bernstein in his book "All Together Now: common sense for a fair economy", describes two styles of value orientation -- YOYO and WITT. YOYOs are people who tell us "You're on your own. Privatize Social Security, let big business do whatever they want, stop welfare, use up our forests, pollute the air, wage war on anyone who disagrees with you but get whatever you can in whatever way you can as soon as you can." WITTs tell us "We're in this together.(If we add Y'all or Youse for the East Coast guys, the acronym becomes WITTY) We need to care for and respect each other and our planet. We should form strong alliances around the world based on respect for diverse views while protecting ourselves so that our people have equal opportunities for prosperity and justice."
