Corporate empathy is an oxymoron like military intelligence. I’m a psychologist, so I am supposed to be knowledgeable about the subject of empathy and, perhaps, oxymorons too. Empathy is usually defined as an ability to understand another person’s feelings. It is a trait that allows people to really get into someone’s experience. 

Corporate empathy can’t exist because empathy is reserved for the living. In psychology, we are expected to be able to do that to fully recognize the other person’s point of view and to connect with them in order to facilitate positive changes.

Your Saturday editorial (Appeal Democrat in Yuba-Sutter, CA) extolled the virtues of a businessman as president. After all this time and all your education are you still trying to sell those stale goods?

Corporations have only one purpose – profit - and they are a good vehicle for that. Otherwise they are mindless, soulless, godless, and joyless. Look at the companies that have raided pension funds to pay CEOs and investors while dumping workers after a bankruptcy or reorganization.
